Free Digital SAT Practice Test in the Bluebook Format
A full digital SAT, built the way the real one is: the Bluebook format, an adaptive second module in each section, the official question order and mix of skills, and a score report at the end. Free, in your browser, no account.
How the digital SAT is structured
| Part | Questions | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Reading and Writing, module 1 | 27 (25 scored + 2 unscored pretest) | 32 minutes |
| Reading and Writing, module 2 | 27 (25 + 2) | 32 minutes |
| Break | 10 minutes | |
| Math, module 1 | 22 (20 scored + 2 unscored pretest) | 35 minutes |
| Math, module 2 | 22 (20 + 2) | 35 minutes |
| Total | 98 | 2 hours 14 minutes plus the break |
Reading and Writing covers four areas: Craft and Structure (about 28% of the questions), Information and Ideas (26%), Standard English Conventions (26%) and Expression of Ideas (20%). Math covers Algebra (35%), Advanced Math (35%), Problem-Solving and Data Analysis (15%) and Geometry and Trigonometry (15%); about a quarter of math questions ask you to type your own answer instead of choosing one. The adaptive part
Module 1 of each section has a broad mix of easy, medium and hard questions. How you do on it decides module 2: a harder one or an easier one. Your score comes from both modules together, and right answers on the harder module count for more. The easier route limits how high you can score: the College Board's technical manual reports that a student routed to the easier Math module who then gets every question right earns at most about 580.
What a practice test here includes
- Questions from the College Board's own SAT Suite Question Bank, in the official order: Math from easiest to hardest, Reading and Writing grouped by skill.
- Module 2 chosen by your module 1 result, with the difficulty mix estimated from official College Board data.
- The Bluebook tools: Desmos graphing calculator, reference sheet, passage highlighter, crossing out answers, mark for review, question navigator, a timer you can hide, and the SAT's rules for typed-in math answers.
- Standard time, time and a half, double time or untimed.
- A score report: total and section scores with a likely range, results by domain and skill, the time you spent on every question, and every question with its explanation.
- An option to leave out the questions the College Board uses on its own Bluebook practice tests, so you can still take those fresh.
Short on time? Take one module
You can take a single module: module 1 only, or a module 2 on its own. Taken alone, the harder module 2 gives a quick section score with module 1 counted as all correct. See harder Math module 2 practice.
Before your first test
The first time you open the site, it downloads the question bank from the College Board in the background, which takes about 20 minutes. You can practice right away; tests unlock once a section's questions are all on your device.
